I prefer serious language study, e.g., learning pronunciation and studying grammar from the beginning. Svitlana absolutely appreciates this! She's also a kind teacher who encourages me. I aslo appreciate her sense of humor - we laugh a little every lesson.
Anna is an absolute sweetheart 😊. She is very patient and creative in her teaching. She is flexible with her lessons and adapts these to suit my abilities and interests. I am very grateful I found Preply and Anna.
I found Hika very friendly and professional at the same time, she is clever at assessing how the lesson can be benefitial to learn and interesting at the same way, but a language needs practice and hard work and that all i wish for her students. дякую!

Start learningLearning Ukrainian can be challenging, especially for those not familiar with Slavic languages. The Cyrillic alphabet, unique grammar structures, and vocabulary can be complex. However, for those who already know another Slavic language, like Russian, the learning curve might be less steep. With consistent practice and the right resources, mastering Ukrainian is certainly achievable.
The time it takes to learn Ukrainian varies based on factors like prior language experience, the amount of time dedicated to study, and immersion in the language. Generally, it can take about 600-750 hours of study to reach a proficient level, according to the Foreign Service Institute. Regular practice with native speakers, using language learning apps, and engaging with Ukrainian media can speed up the learning process.
One of the most common questions about learning Ukrainian is how it compares to Russian. While both languages share some similarities due to their Slavic roots, they have distinct differences in pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar. Ukrainian uses the Cyrillic alphabet, like Russian, but with some different letters and sounds. The vocabulary and idioms can be quite different, and certain grammatical structures in Ukrainian are unique. Understanding these distinctions can help learners avoid confusion and appreciate the uniqueness of Ukrainian.

I’m Dariia, a Localization Specialist at Preply, originally from Ukraine. Ukrainian is my native language. I’ve always been fascinated by how language reflects culture, which led me to study and use multiple languages in real-life contexts. I speak Polish and French, have a solid grasp of Spanish, and at different points in my life, I’ve also studied Italian, Swahili, Crimean Tatar, and Sign Language. Having lived and worked in multicultural environments, I’m especially attuned to regional expressions and the subtle nuances that make each language unique. Beyond localization, I bring a translator’s mindset to everything I do. I’ve translated fiction and non-fiction books, as well as articles and movie scripts. Whether it’s preserving idioms, adapting humor, or choosing the right level of formality, I’m passionate about making sure our content speaks to people in the most human, relatable way possible.
